ABOUT ABOUT

“Watercolor is a swim in the metaphysics of life…a mirror of one’s own character. Let it be unpredictable and colorful!” -Anonymous

The versatility, immediacy, and colorful nature of modern watercolor can make it a peacefully therapeutic outlet and a beautiful way to explore using mindfulness to connect on a deeper level to creative inspiration. Exploring this approachable medium can be a liberating and enlightening experience for all, including beginners, seasoned artists, and all in between.

Throughout this playful and informative workshop, explore some of the many tools and techniques involved in the unique art of watercolor painting, with plenty of opportunity for both guided and self-directed practice.

After learning the surprisingly simple and magical skill of mixing an entire rainbow of paint colors with just four tubes of paint, participants will move on to experience both traditional and innovative approaches to watercolor mark-making including: washes, ombré, dry brush, table salt, masking, resist, spray and splatter, layering, mixing media, gold leaf application, collage etc.

By using gentle mindfulness exercises to tap into the relaxing, meditative process of painting, participants will ultimately have an opportunity to use newly acquired knowledge to create their own abstract, expressive “mini” pieces to take home.

Refreshments and gorgeous work space will be provided by hostess Ashley Riddle in her UpDos For I Dos studio located in Linthicum Heights, Maryland.

Materials and instruction provided by Maryland artist Kristen Marie Evans.

Each participant will receive their own watercolor/mindfulness exploration kit including:

  • Brushes
  • Palette
  • 4 tubes of Cotman watercolor paints
  • Watercolor paper
  • Curated information
  • Original watercolor mini
  • Sedona Light healing crystal sun catcher
